The Nursery, Pre-School & Infant Departments at Highclare School have a strong reputation for achieving Individual Excellence for each pupil.
The Nursery caters for children from the age of 18 months through to 3 years old and runs from 7.30 am to 6.00 pm on a full year basis. During the term in which they become 3 years old children move to the Kindergarten and Pre-School Departments, either at Highclare Woodfield, or Highclare St Paul's, where a warm welcome awaits them from the experienced teaching staff.
Both sites provide a safe and secure environment, with perimeter fences and gated entrances. A full wrap-around care service, (TOPS, is offered for busy parents from 7.30 am to 6.00 pm, including breakfast and tea. A structured holiday scheme (TOPS), operates during all school holidays and it has received a Quality Assurance Award for care from Birmingham PlayCare Network.
A healthy eating food policy is delivered on site by our catering staff and supported by caring lunchtime supervisors.
Pupils are encouraged from an early age to look after one another. A structure is in place in the Infant Department, using 'Friendship Benches' to recognise others' pastoral needs, and awards are made for good playground behaviour.
Merit systems are used in the Pre-School and Infant Departments to acknowledge pupil attainment for both curricular and extra-curricular activities, and these awards, together with accompanying certificates are presented at weekly Merit Assemblies. Talents in extra-curricular activities such as French, Ballet and sport are nurtured using Award stickers.
The learning needs of individual children are recognised through regular staff meetings where information is shared, notably on transfer between classes, and particularly in the case of children moving from Transition class (Pre-School) to Reception, and from Year 2 to Year 3 (Juniors)
Your child is assured of a confident start to their education in the caring environment at Highclare's Nursery, Pre-School & Infant Departments.
In June 2008 our Early Years Provision (pre school and reception) at both Woodfield and St Paul's was subject to an inspection by Ofsted.
We were delighed with their findings that both sites have been classified as 'outstanding' in all four categories.
This is an amazing achievement and a credit to all the staff and pupils
