Extra Curricular
Whilst academic achievement remains at the heart of Highclare's educational philosophy, great importance is accorded to the developments of other talents. Every individual is therefore encouraged to take part in one or more of the many extra curricular activities available.
Music, Speech and Drama
- Opportunities to participate in a wide range of ensembles, choirs, orchestras and wind band.
- Concerts in and out of school are a regular feature of the school year.
- Individual tuition for most instruments and voice training and acting.
- External instrumental examinations are encouraged.
- A music and drama department regularly stages productions.
- Pupils take a wide range of LAMDA examinations.
- Drama activities build confidence and encourage spontaneity of expression.
- Communication skills are fostered, helping students to express themselves clearly, naturally and confidently.
- Public speaking club develops useful life skills and pupils regularly enter Rotary competitions.
- Book club encourages an interest in literature.
Sport
- County representation in 5 sports.
- House teams in 8 sports giving further opportunities.
- Over 30 teams including hockey, netball, tennis, rounders, athletics, cross country, football, cricket, swimming and gymnastics.
- Many club activities e.g. fencing and badminton
- A great deal of match practice in local and independent school leagues and tournaments.
- Dance clubs for all ages.
Citizenship
- A wide range of projects undertaken for local and national charities
- As part of the General Studies programme, the Sixth formers welcome a variety of visiting speakers to address them on current affairs and issues of concern.
Out and About
- Regular trips expand experience and the development of subject areas.
- Theatre and museum visits throughout the age range.
- Adventure holidays and hockey tours occur frequently.
- Visits abroad encompass language study and cultural aspects
