U4th Career Information Morning

Posted: 8th November 2017

Our U4th year group are now brimming with knowledge about the diverse career paths open to them when they leave school following our careers information morning this week.

Guest speaker, Mr Max Coleman, operations director at Steel & Alloy Processing Limited, opened proceedings, explaining the different fields of engineering and opportunities within the sector post GCSE and A-level and included a popular challenge with a generous prize! Mrs Nia Stead,  our law teacher and trained solicitor, told us about the qualities needed to do law and what inspired her to choose the profession,  whilst Dr Christine Burt spoke about her experience as a medical research scientist as well as pointing out job opportunities both clinical and non-clinical in the NHS.  Mrs Healey led a careers activity before we brought the morning to a close with our final speaker, Mr Sam Goss, general manager at Moor Hall Hotel, who talked about his career path and the different roles and entry levels needed by the hotel  to manage its business successfully.

GCSE Results

This year Highclare students have once again produced outstanding GCSE results.  Nearly one third of all grades were at the highest level of 7 and above and our overall pass rate was 92%, all of which are significantly above the national figures of 22% and 68% respectively.

Half of all grades were 6 and above and 98% of our full-time students achieved 5 of more GCSE passes. Having scored particularly excellent grades in Science and Maths, we are welcoming 4 students onto our Pre-Med scholarship program, designed to support students with medicine-related university applications.

Nearly 10% of our cohort have achieved 8 or more GCSEs at the top grades of 7 or above (or 35% achieved 7 or more GCSEs at the top grades of 6 or above).
