Mrs Bennett’s Bulletin Tuesday 5 November

Posted: 5th November 2024

Good morning, Prep School family,

I hope the Bulletin finds you well this week and that you all had a wonderful half term. For me, it has seemed like a really long break with lots of time to rest and recharge. We had a week in Turkey with some friends which was amazing – it was hot, the sky was a perfect blue with no clouds at all, the food was delicious, the company excellent and the adult beverages were free flowing! Our friends have a little boy who managed to discover the wonders of kids club this holiday which meant each afternoon we would retreat to the adult’s only pool for a few hours. We read our books, slept, played cards, laughed a lot and generally relaxed. It didn’t take the waiter long to work out our drinks order and each day he had the drinks waiting at our sun loungers at 2pm! He then visited us every 20 mins for the next 2.5 hours for a refresh! Now that is what I call quality service!

The remainder of half term for me was even more exciting for myself and Mr Bennett. On 31 October, we went to pick up our very special Halloween treat! We have been seriously considering it for a long time and decided that now was as good a time as any to welcome Betty to the Bennett family. I have attached some pictures for you to see – I apologise in advance as this is all I am going to be talking about now! I know that I am very biased but she is so beautiful and so well-behaved . . . most of the time! I haven’t had a puppy in the house for over 25 years so any advice would be welcomed, especially on how to stop the ‘over excited, I love you, I want to play with you’ nipping stage. Her teeth are like razors blades and no matter what we do, she seems to want to mouth us as much as possible.  I have tried distracting her but it doesn’t work! Once she has her gnashes onto an item of clothing (or your hand/leg/shoe etc), it’s very hard to get her off! On the plus side, I can recommend M&S high denier tights as they seem indestructible and very puppy proof!

I’m going to sign off now, with no apologies from me! I have an 8 week old puppy who is in serious need of playtime and cuddles. I have waited a very long time for this moment and I am going to enjoy every puppy-filled second!

Well-being tasks for this week: These are all based on New November! A range of task and activities to encourage you to try something new. These challenges are meant to help you create a habit of taking small, positive actions each day.

Tuesday 5 November– Change your normal routine today and notice how you feel

Wednesday 6 November – Try out a new way of being physically active

Thursday 7 November – Be creative

Friday 8 November – Plan a new activity or idea that you want to try out this week

Saturday 9 November – When you feel you cannot do something, add the word “yet”

Sunday 10 November – Be curious – learn about a new topic or idea

Monday 11 November – Chose a different route to school today – what do you notice?

Jokes of the week:

What do you call a duck who likes watching fireworks? A firequacker!

What do you get when you cross a dinosaur with fireworks? Dinomite!

What was Guy Fawkes’ favourite meal? Bangers and mash!

A pyrotechnic expert friend of mine lost his job after the fireworks did not go off in the right sequence. . . That’s bang out of order!

I’m good at firework displays . . . I’ve got a flare for it!

Conversation starters:

What are your top five memories from half term?

If you could change one thing about half term, what would it be?

5 things that I am grateful for or looking forward to this week:

Can you try this simple exercise in gratitude and positivity?

  1. I am looking forward to the Year 6 Acts of Remembrance
  2. I am looking forward to unpacking more boxes this weekend – yes, I am still going!
  3. I am looking forward to gardening over the weekend
  4. I am grateful for a super fun half term
  5. I am grateful for Betty – dreams do come true!

Sleeps til Santa: 49 days – who has been listening to the Christmas songs on the 24 hour Christmas radio channel yet? Definitely not me!!

Have a super week and keep safe around all of the firework celebrations,

With love,

Mrs Bennett
