Mrs Bennett’s Bulletin Tuesday 9 May 2023

Posted: 9th May 2023

Good morning, Prep School family,

I hope you are well and enjoyed the long weekend. I had a lovely weekend with friends and family. I loved watching the coronation on Saturday and watching our King and Queen being crowned. My dad and I sat and watched it on the TV as we drank tea and ate shortbread, discussing all of the interesting facts that we were being told. I loved learning about the traditions of the coronation and why all of the ceremonial things happened as they did. I found it fascinating watching the armed forces march and parade – the precision and timing is nothing short of spectacular. I enjoyed people watching and admiring the outfits people had chosen to wear – Kate’s headpiece was stunning! The balcony appearance at the end and the Red Arrows fly over was just wonderful. I think my favourite parts had to be:

  1. The armed forces doing their three cheers for King Charles – the removing of their hats and the unity and sound made was extremely moving.
  2. The sacred anointing of King Charles, the screening off of such a personal, sacred and humbling moment. . . very poignant.
  3. William pledging his allegiance to The King, his dad. . .so special
  4. The gospel choir and the abbey choir singing Zadok the Priest – truly beautiful
  5. The golden carriage and seeing the sceptre, orb and both crowns – all of the things that fairy tales are made of!

I was so proud to be British this weekend and be able to witness such an historic event.

Now, I do know that the monarchy isn’t for you all and I understand that some of you didn’t enjoy/appreciate the coronation as I did, so that is the last that I will say on the matter. . .for now. . until we have another major royal celebration!

The rest of my weekend consisted of a night out in Nottingham to see Michael Buble (AMAZING!), catching up on the coronation concert that we missed (Lionel Ritchie – love!) and meeting friends for brunch – if only every weekend was like this!
