Sixth Form Enrichment Fortnight 2019

Posted: 23rd January 2019

This week Highclare Sixth Form students have already welcomed Amy Prentice, Senior Student Recruitment Officer at BCU and Anne-Marie Allen of the British Red Cross to Highclare Senior School as part of Sixth Form Enrichment Fortnight 2019.

On Monday L6 students took part in an interesting and informative Introduction to Higher Education with Amy Prentice and on Tuesday Anne-Marie Allen led an interactive session with all Sixth Form students on First Aid by utilising every day items not found in a standard first aid kit.

Enrichment sessions take place daily throughout the two weeks. This week students still have lots to look forward to including basic maintenance skills, mindfulness techniques, particularly when coping with exam stress and the UCAS application process, Aston University.

Enrichment Fortnight is always a fantastic addition to the Sixth Form timetable, it offers opportunities for pupils to develop their communication, life and leadership skills as well as take part in thought provoking talks on topical subjects.

GCSE Results

This year Highclare students have once again produced outstanding GCSE results.  Nearly one third of all grades were at the highest level of 7 and above and our overall pass rate was 92%, all of which are significantly above the national figures of 22% and 68% respectively.

Half of all grades were 6 and above and 98% of our full-time students achieved 5 of more GCSE passes. Having scored particularly excellent grades in Science and Maths, we are welcoming 4 students onto our Pre-Med scholarship program, designed to support students with medicine-related university applications.

Nearly 10% of our cohort have achieved 8 or more GCSEs at the top grades of 7 or above (or 35% achieved 7 or more GCSEs at the top grades of 6 or above).
