Safer Internet Day 2019

Posted: 4th February 2019

Highclare School has registered alongside hundreds of schools across the UK to be a part of Safer Internet Day 2019 on Tuesday 5 February.

On the 1 February, Mr Sneary, Head of ICT  at Highclare Senior School, delivered an informative assembly on internet safety, an opportunity to rethink how we use the Internet and consider the dangers that are associated with it.

During the assembly Mr Sneary spoke about the global theme for Safer Internet Day 2019, together for a better internet and asked pupils to think carefully about the amount of time they spend on social media.  Social media has so many positives, but at the same time, it is very addictive and can be harmful in lots of ways.

As part of Safer Internet Day, pupils have been asked to swap 30 minutes of their social media time for 30 minutes doing something else, for example playing a sport or helping others. If you are a parent reading this then please support us by encouraging your children to take part in the social media swap, and by all means join in yourselves!

Everyone has their part to play in making the internet a better place, we hope to promote safe, responsible, positive use of digital technology, from 5 February, ten top tips on staying safe online will also be posted on the ICT twitter page @Highclare_ICT

GCSE Results

This year Highclare students have once again produced outstanding GCSE results.  Nearly one third of all grades were at the highest level of 7 and above and our overall pass rate was 92%, all of which are significantly above the national figures of 22% and 68% respectively.

Half of all grades were 6 and above and 98% of our full-time students achieved 5 of more GCSE passes. Having scored particularly excellent grades in Science and Maths, we are welcoming 4 students onto our Pre-Med scholarship program, designed to support students with medicine-related university applications.

Nearly 10% of our cohort have achieved 8 or more GCSEs at the top grades of 7 or above (or 35% achieved 7 or more GCSEs at the top grades of 6 or above).
